Trotter Privacy Policy

Last updated September 30, 2026

Trotter is published by Playsthetic LLC. It has no analytics, advertising or crash reporting, and it never uploads your files. This page describes what Trotter keeps and everything it sends off your device. Our Privacy Policy covers the rest, including buying a license, how long we keep what reaches us, your rights, and how to contact us.

On your device

Your trips stay in the files you open. Your location is only used to show where you are on the map, and if you let Trotter use your photos, it searches them on your device.

In your folders

Trotter only reads the trip files you open and never writes to them.

What leaves your device

Maps and directions

Maps, routes and place names come from Apple, which receives the coordinates of your stops and the dates you travel.

Received by Apple.

Place pictures

To show a picture of a place, Trotter looks the place up on Wikipedia by name, along with the picture's author and license, and downloads the picture from Wikimedia Commons. An image address in your file is downloaded from wherever it points.

Received by the Wikimedia Foundation and the sites your files link to.

Weather

When a trip asks for weather, Trotter sends the dates of each stop and its coordinates, rounded to about a kilometer, to our server at api.playsthetic.com, which asks Apple Weather for the forecast or for past years' conditions. The server keeps Apple's answer for up to an hour, so a trip opened again doesn't ask twice, and does not log or store the coordinates or dates otherwise. Weather can be turned off in Settings.

Received by Playsthetic LLC and Apple.

Update checks

Copies downloaded from our website or installed with Homebrew check for a newer version by fetching a small file from s3.playsthetic.com. The request carries only what any web request carries, such as your IP address, and our server logs keep it for up to 7 days. Downloading an update is counted like any other download, as our Privacy Policy describes.

Received by Playsthetic LLC.

License checks

When you enter a license key, Trotter keeps it in your system keychain, which holds on to it even after you delete the application. It sends the key to api.playsthetic.com to confirm it is valid, then again at each launch. Besides the key, the request carries only what the application sends with any request, such as its version and your operating system version. We record the day the key was last checked.

Received by Playsthetic LLC.

Deleting your data

What Trotter keeps on your device or writes into your folders never reaches us, so you can delete it yourself at any time. A license key stays in your system keychain until you remove it with Keychain Access. To ask about anything that did reach us, see Your rights in our Privacy Policy.
